Books My Soul Needs

Soul Needs

So my life right now is basically me waiting endlessly for sequels to come out. WHY DO THEY TAKE SOOO LONG (Rational part of my brain: because books have to be drafted, edited, revised, edited, revised and edited again and revised again). YEAH BUT WHY DOES IT TAKE SO LOOOONG

My friend over at Empire of Starlight did a “Books My Soul Needs” post which inspired me to do my own. So here is a list of my most anticipating books that will come out later this year.

Darkest Legacy

Goodreads | Amazon | Barnes and Noble
Release Date: July 31st, 2018

I am SO SO EXCITED for another book in The Darkest Minds world. TDM is one of my absolute favorite trilogies so when I heard Bracken was publishing a stand alone in Zu’s POV, I was overjoyed. I’ve been wanting her to revisit this world for so long and it’s finally coming true! And I’m sure we’ll get to see Ruby and the rest of the gang show up and it’ll be nice to see how they’re doing five years after In the Afterlight.

(Also, the TDM movie is releasing later this year and I haven’t been this excited for a book to movie adaptation since Harry Potter. If this movie isn’t good, I’m going to cry for days in despair).

QoAaD

Goodreads | Amazon | Barnes and Noble
Release Date: December 4th, 2018

HOW AM I SUPPOSED TO WAIT UNTIL FREAKING DECEMBER!! HOOOOOWWWW!! This series is killing me! It’s so good! Cassandra Clare outdid herself with the The Dark Artifices, it’s definitely her best series to date. The characters are amazing, the plot gets better and better, and she keeps developing the Shadowhunter world in a way that doesn’t feel forced.

Bright We Burn (1)

Goodreads | Amazon | Barnes and Noble
Release Date: July 10, 2018

The third book to the Conqueror’s Saga trilogy. And I Darken is my favorite YA historical fiction: these books are adventurous, action packed and full of complicated characters. And after the ending of Now I Rise, the stakes are higher than ever and I NEED to know what will happen.

Reaper

Goodreads | Amazon | Barnes and Noble
Release Date: June 12, 2018

The third book to the Ember in the Ashes quartet. I’m so excited for this book! I love the Ember world and there is still so much left to explore. The characters are all complex and well developed, there are some surprising plot twists, and the action scenes are awesome.

  1. YES TO ALL OF THESE BOOKS
(especially Bright We Burn… oh my lord that book is going to absolutely, positively break my heart & I’m going to love every second of it)
((also I’m so excited that A Reaper At the Gates is finally coming out!! I feel like I’ve been waiting decades for it))

    1. OH MY GOSH BRIGHT WE BURN, all I care about is Nazira and her happy ending (And Mehmed dying would also be great 😁). It’s been so long since Torch Against the Night came out, it does feel like a decade! I need to go reread the first two books before starting Reaper.

        1. I KNOWWW!! Radu needs to realize Mehmed sucks and he needs to go far, far away (hopefully to Lada so they can be the sibling team they were always meant to be).

    1. I didn’t know there was gonna be another Al Capone book! Though I don’t remember anything from that series so I probably won’t read it 😊

  2. I haven’t really been reading any new releases lately so actually I haven’t really been waiting on any particular sequels. The onlu new release I bought and read instantly was Children of Blood and Bone by Tomi Adeyemi and it was so bad of me to read it quickly because I have to wait A WHOLE YEAR. Oh, and I just finished reading the Raven Cycle and now I need to wait for the second series because man, that ending was cruel DD:

I hope you can get all those books as soon as they come out! Waiting on books is the real bookworm struggle DD:

    1. I am so excited to read Children of Blood and Bone! It’s been everywhere lately AND I NEED TO BUY IT. (I made a deal with myself that if I do well on my finals next week, I would buy myself a copy 😀 ). OH MY GOSH what did you think about the Raven Cycle?? I LOVE those books! I am super psyched about the Ronan trilogy!

  3. Bright We Burn, YES PLEASE! I try desperately to avoid reading incomplete series (only fully published for me, please!), but sometimes it’s hard to avoid it. Book clubs or I need an audiobook available now or something — something will interfere. I haven’t read many of the series books you’ve identified here, but there are a lot of awesome authors you’ve identified.

Hm. I don’t stay on top of new releases (see: avoiding incomplete series), so I don’t have an opinion about unreleased books, really. I want all the books which Erin Morgenstern hasn’t written which are sitting in her brain! And everyone by Rainbow Rowell… I just want authors to write for me ALL the time. 😉

Do you stay on top of new releases? If so, how do you manage it?

    1. “Bright We Burn” needs to be in my hands NOW. I’m both terrified and excited to find out what’s in store for these characters. It’s really awesome that you avoid reading incomplete series, that way you can binge read all the books. I should really start doing that, it would free myself of all the heartache.

I actually haven’t read anything by Erin Morgenstern 🙂 , which book should I start with? If only we could get authors to personally write for us 😦

I usually don’t stay on top of new releases unless it’s a sequel I really, really want or by an author I love.

      1. Refusing to pick up series which are not fully published is a decision I made in 2007 when Robert Jordan died. He had been taking his sweet sweet time writing The Wheel of Time and each time a new book had come out I had to binge read the entire series up to this point in order to figure out what was going on. Then he died befire finishing the series. I was over it.
(Thankfully, Brandon Sanderson came along in 2010 and started publishing the end of the series thanks for Jordan’s will and wife). It’s been the best reading decision I’ve ever made.

Erin Morgenstern has ONLY written The Night Circus which is my favorite book of all time. Read it. This is an order! 😉

        1. I would love to be someone who waits until the whole series is published but I have no self control whatsover. OHH of course! “The Night Circus” is on my list!! I shall read it soon(ish) 😀
