A huge, HUGE thank you to both Maxine @ The Rogue Storyteller (who tagged me back in March) and Empress @ Empire of Starlight for nominating me for The Unique Blogger Award! Maxine has some very thoughtful book reviews and awesome recommendations so go check her blog out! Empress also has some great book reviews and she’s just a wonderful person inside and out so go check out her blog too!
Rules:
- Share the link of the blogger who has shown love to you by nominating you.
- Answer the questions.
- In the spirit of sharing love and solidarity with our blogging family, nominate 8-13 people for the same award.
- Ask them three questions.
Maxine’s Questions
- What’s your favorite retelling of a story/folktale? This can be in the form of a book or movie.Oooh, my favorite retelling. I guess I’d have to say the Lunar Chronicles because I haven’t read many retellings I liked. Out of the Lunar Chronicles, Winter (Snow White retelling) is probably my favorite.
- Are there any characters that you think deserved a better ending than they got?You mean ALL OF MY BABIES WHO DIED?? YES! SO MANY! (I’d also like to not spoil anything for anyone so let me refrain from actually making a list of characters who deserved very much to live).
- If you could be any book character for a day, who would it be and why?
This is such a hard question! As much as I’d love to be any of the Six of Crows crew, I’d kill myself and the team in seconds. I’m actually going to go with Kamala Khan (aka Ms. Marvel), she is still trying to get used to her newfound superpowers, we have similar family backgrounds and I think her powers are super cool.
Empress’ Questions
- If you could have any fictional power, what would it be and what would you do with it?
I’ve always liked force field manipulation/creation the best. I don’t think I’d do anything special with it really, just learn how to reach things with my field so I wouldn’t have to go get it, maybe use a force field to levitate myself, protect myself from a nuclear apocalypse, etc. etc.
- What is your favorite/most hated YA trope?Favorite: The Chosen One trope, I just love the whole your destiny is blah blah blah story line for some reason.
Most hated: insta-love. No, just no.
- If you could only read one book for the rest of your life what would it be?
I… would rather not read for the rest of my life than choose among my children. I cannot and will not do it.
My Questions
- If you could bring any book character from their world to yours so you can be friends, who would you pick?
- What hobby would you like to pick up that you haven’t already?
- Do you like happy endings or sad but realistic endings?

Six of Crows IS my favorite child but a mother should not show such apparent favoritism.

Yes to the chosen one trope! One of my faves as well!

I’m with you on the Six of Crows situation. I’d love to be a part of the group but I’d totally get everyone killed, myself included haha. I’ve not read the Lunar Chronicles- would you recommend them highly, then?

Right! I’d much rather just let them do their own little thing and not interfere. YES! I do recommend Lunar Chronicles highly (especially if you like fairytales).

Great answers! I really like the Chosen one trope as well, it is a bit overused yet I always find myself drawn to the whole destiny kind of thing 🙂 And YAY for The Lunar Chronicles, it is one of my favorite series ever, and Winter is one of my favorite books ❤

Yay! I’m glad. It’s one of the only overused tropes I can read over and over again. Winter is so great! I love that girl.

Not many people are fans of foce-field-manipulation. That is actually really cool!

Right! I’m glad someone thinks so! You could do so much with force fields.

Great post, I also love the chosen one trope and insta love is my biggest pet peeve. Thanks so much for the tag what questions would you like us to answer??

Thank you for tagging me!! ❤
Also, I AGREE WITH YOU SO MUCH ABOUT THE SIX OF CROWS THING. I am the clumsiest airhead ever. I would probably somehow wash up dead in the harbor at Ketterdam. :')

You’re welcome 😄 take your time with the tag though, no pressure!
RIGHT OH MY GOSH!! I would die in Ketterdam within an hour 😂 .

I wouldn’t even give myself an honor tbh, I’d get myself in trouble within minutes because I have no sense of direction and my instincts are usually terribly wrong

I love the chosen one trope too! A while ago I saw a lot of hatred against it and I felt so alone haha. The Lunar Chronicles is definitely one of the best retellings out there (if not THE best – I don’t remember which retellings I’ve read 😂)

Yay! Aww, I understand you. I’m always seeing hatred against Chosen One trope because it’s so common but I love it anywaanywaysy 😄. And YES, Lunar Chronicles is so good!

Thanks for tagging me! You asked some awesome questions, I can’t wait to get to them!
And yes yes YES to the Chosen One trope. I can’t even really explain why I love it so much, I just really enjoy it!

Of course! Take your time, no pressure!
I KNOW, me neither! Chosen One stories are great!

This is a fun tag! I love that you were doubled down on with questions. That’s a bit of cheating, isn’t it? 😉 And YES insta-love is the WORST. Unless I am in the mood for a romance. Then I read a romance and I expect it. But seriousl. Gross. Stay out of my literature!

Me? Cheating? Never! 😀 I know! I hate insta-love especially when it’s a Fantasy or SF book and has no reason to be there. I understand the trope in straight up Romance books but other than that, just no.
